Land of Enchantment Book Award 2017 Winners

Every year, the Land of Enchantment Book Award committee chooses a list of books for New Mexico students, grades K-12 to vote on for the best book of the year in that category. This year the list expanded to 4 categories:

  • Roadrunner (Grades K-3)
  • Coyote (Grades 3-5)
  • Lizard (Grades 6-8)
  • Black Bear (Grades 9-12)

In April, kids in school and public libraries filled out ballots for their favorite book. Votes were tallied and in late April the committee announced the winners!

  • Roadrunner You Are (Not) Small by Anna Kang
  • Coyote Poem Mobiles by J. Patrick Lewis
  • Lizard Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
  • Brown Bear Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

The list for 2018 is up on the website so if you’re interested in encouraging kids to vote or in displaying the books you can find the lists here. We’ll be focusing on a different title here every month leading up to the vote in April as well as presenting at the annual NMLA conference in November so come say hello and find out what we have up our sleeve (last year everyone in attendance walked away with a free book!).
