Purpose of Position

THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.

Why does the job exist?

This position resides at the New Mexico State Library in Santa Fe. As part of the Public Services Bureau, this position provides basic level information services to library customers. This position is responsible for the daily operation of and will assist with improvements to the statewide inter-library borrowing and lending system for small, rural and prison libraries in order to effectively meet the needs of library users in New Mexico. This position is responsible for staffing the main reference desk and conducting basic research in order to respond to information requests.

How does it get done?

Performs daily statewide inter-library borrowing and lending operations tasks to include library customer communication as necessary. Provides direct reference service to public customers by serving 10 to 15 hours per week on the reference desk and responding to customer inquiries.

New Mexico residents.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following:

– Research and reference support in a library setting.
– Providing inter-library loan services.
– Initiative and a strong customer service commitment.

Minimum Qualification

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country). Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current and valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Occasional lifting and/or pushing boxes and books weighing up to 25 pounds.
