Salary: $56,357 – $90,171 Annually. This position is a Pay Band 75

Why does the job exist?  This library supervisor position assists with the coordination of the staff and services of the Public Services Bureau in order to provide excellent reference and research assistance to the public, state agencies, and libraries.

How does it get done?

Reference Services – Provide advanced or expert level reference services to library customers, and leadership for and coordination of all aspects of the public service desk operations, conduct complex research in order to respond to information requests, promotes public services and collections, must demonstrate initiative and a strong customer service commitment.

Collection Development – Manage collection development for reference and general serials collections, manage in-building electronic resources.

Website and OPAC Maintenance – Develop and maintain public services portions of the state library, improve and maintain Symphony (Sirsi Dynix) online public access catalog.

Supervision – Supervise one or more government documents depository (state and federal) library technicians.

Who are the customers? The general public, state agencies, and libraries statewide.

Ideal Candidate

  • Supervisory experience
  • Team leadership experience
  • Knowledge of or experience in government documents depositories
  • Knowledge of or experience providing adult research and reference services in a library setting.
  • Knowledge of or experience conducting complex library research

Minimum Qualification

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or recognized by the appropriate body of another country) and two (2) years of experience in performing and providing advanced library technical operations, effective library and information services, plus cataloging experience and managerial experience. 1 Master’s degree or higher in the field(s) specified in the minimum qualification AND 2 years of experience

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.  Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
