Albuquerque, Ashgabat Delegates Connect in Cultural Exchange

Alana McGrattan, Tribal Libraries Program Coordinator, recently traveled to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, as a continuation of the Sister Cities/Sister Libraries exchange between Albuquerque and Ashgabat. The Sister Cities relationship started over 25 years ago and this visit was to commemorate that relationship. In 2009, Ms. McGrattan traveled with the Albuquerque delegation and began a Sister Libraries relationship with the National Library of Turkmenistan and University of New Mexico Libraries, CNM Libraries and Albuquerque Bernalillo County Libraries. Over the years there have been two more exchanges and resources shared among the libraries. Books from Turkmenistan have been donated to Albuquerque libraries and Costco sponsored several donations over the years. We are hoping to continue this relationship. For more information, please email Alana.mcgrattan@state.nm.us.
