Hitchhiker is Back!

Fireworks Show

After a nearly two year hiatus, New Mexico State Library’s newsletter for libraries and librarians in New Mexico is back!

The Hitchhiker has a long history: the first issue was published May 8th, 1972. Some fifteen hundred issues later, in 2003, the Hitchhiker had its first online issue.

It continued in both print and online until July 2006, and after a brief sabbatical became an online only publication in 2007, published as PDFs.

Now, the Hitchhiker has a new format – a web magazine where articles are posted on a continuous basis, rather than as discrete issues. We’ll be developing some regular features – for example, Traversing Technology, a weekly column published every Thursday by Technology Consultant Patricia Moore, and the Continuing Education Calendar maintained by CE Coordinator Eleanor Bernau – as well as highlighting interesting and relevant articles from around the web.

But the core of the Hitchhiker is the news and happenings in New Mexico’s libraries of all kind – public, academic, school and special – so our hope is that the bulk of the content will come from you. To contribute, please send news, announcements, job postings, and other sorts of articles to hitchhiker@thestatelibrary.com
