POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION TITLE:

Library Director

 

REPORTS TO:

Town Manager

 

 

DEPARTMENT:  Library

 

 

PAY  SCALE:  E13 (Exempt)

$35,973 – $57,727 DOQ

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for the management, operation and promotion of the Silver City Public Library; for providing effective and efficient library services to the public; budgets, directs, instructs, sets standards, reviews and counsels/disciplines employees.

 

 

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS

 

 

SPECIFIC CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

State of New Mexico Library Certification II;

Valid NM Driver’s License; must meet Town’s insurability requirements

 

 

EDUCATION-MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors Degree in related field from an Accredited University

Masters in Library Science from an ALA Accredited University required

 

 

EXPERIENCE-MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Three years experience in Public Library service

Two years supervisory experience in a library setting

Experience in principles and practices of library administration, budgeting, supervision, and personnel administration.

 

 

ABILITIES-MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of principles and practices of library administration, budgeting, supervision and personnel administration.  Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with the public.  Town management, boards, and staff.  Familiarity and ability with word processing, spreadsheets, internet access/use, and automated library systems.  Ability to write and speak effectively, to produce clear, concise administrative material, public service announcements, and grant applications.; ability to lift 15 lbs. ability to pass drug and alcohol tests.

 

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Public Library Director:  works with staff, boards, and Town management to formulate and carry out short and long-term plans and goals; prepares and oversees the annual budget, with the direction of the Town Manager; organizes, sets standards, and instructs staff on matters related to management  and operations of the library; evaluates the collection to ensure that it is balanced and meets the needs and wants of library users and potential users; sets and maintains standards for quality customer service; is responsible for preparation and timeliness of required reports such as the annual report to the State Library; works effectively with community groups, other area libraries and government agencies; maintains responsibility of all library employee counseling and discipline; and supervises the maintenance of library buildings, grounds and related property.  Performs other related duties as assigned

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  INDOOR ENVIRONMENT.  SOME EXPOSURE TO DUST AND NOISE.  MUST BE ABLE TO LIFT 15 LBS.
