DESCRIPTION:

Join our community-minded team in Gallup New Mexico, in the heart of Indian Country. Only a two-hour drive to Albuquerque, Gallup is home to the five-day Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial, one of the oldest and largest Native American events in the United States. We also celebrate our unique New Mexico culture at the December Red Rock Balloon Rally, monthly downtown ArtsCrawl events, traditional nightly dances, and amazing hiking and biking trails that run through the stunning red rocks, Hogback, and Zuni Mountains. Gallup’s developing Main Street/Arts and Cultural District is home to new art galleries and old Trading Posts, giving Gallup its unique blend of history and community.

The Octavia Fellin Public Library seeks an innovative, creative, and community focused Deputy Director.  This is high level library management and advanced professional work.  Assists Library Director in overseeing and managing all library operations and services. Responsible for the library in the Director’s absence.  Supervises reference, collection development and the community computer training program. Coordinates community programming for adults and participation outreach activities. Identifies and writes grants. Responsible for assuring that library users receive quality services. Represents the library to community organizations developing partnerships and collaborations.  Work includes identifying trends, possible new services and implementing them in a fiscally sound manner. Work requires extensive contact with library staff, library users, community organizations, other city departments, elected officials the media and professional organizations. This position requires excellent communication skills both written and verbal.  Required to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends. Some travel required.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ALA Accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS), Four (4) years professional library work, with two (2) years in a supervisory position.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in providing traditional and electronic reference service, experience in materials selection and collection development, experience in community programming and outreach activities, and experience in budget preparation and monitoring expenditures.
